Introduction to Knotwork Construction by Rolin Thurmundsson of the Three Households

This introductory tutorial covers Insular Celtic-style knotwork background, basic interlacing techniques, simple border and panel construction, and provides links to other, advanced sources for further research. This tutorial should be considered introductory in nature and assumes no experience in Celtic art or design; just a fascination with it! It does not cover what I would call "art" or "design" as such, but is more "technical" in nature. Techniques from this tutorial can be (and have been) applied to both hand-drawn and computer-constructed designs. The techniques described in this tutorial did not originate with me. I only use the techniques in my work, felt that they were not well-enough known, and hoped that the class (and the associated web site tutorial) would help them gain wider appreciation.

1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Slings (Part II): Using a Sling by Anastasie deLamoure

Class Prerequisite: Taking part one of the class

This is part two of a sling class. In this part you will learn how to use a sling on a Thrown Weapons range and now to keep it safe.

1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Advanced Knotwork Construction by Rolin Thurmundsson of the Three Households

Class Prerequiste: Some experience with Insular-Celtic style interlace. Ideally, have taken the Introduction to Knotwork Construction course.

This tutorial covers advanced interlacing techniques, the use of non-square grids, analysis of existing patterns, interlaced corners, other construction patterns (such as "doubled" knotwork), and provides links to other, advanced sources for further research. This tutorial assumes some experience in drawing simple knotwork designs using the “cellular” techniques. It does not cover what I would call "art" or "design" as such (I don't feel I'm qualified to teach in those areas) but is more "technical" in nature. Techniques from this tutorial can be (and have been) applied to both hand-drawn and computer-constructed designs. The techniques described in this tutorial generally did not originate with me. I only use the techniques in my work, felt that they were not well-enough known, and hoped that the class (and the associated web site tutorial) would help them gain wider appreciation.
